Once again, I was invited to stay with a gracious family in their southern estate. I became very close to the family and it was my suggestion that this young boy wear an old fashioned sailor suit. He was five years old at the time and I think the outfit suited his sweet youthful persona. The placement of his hands express his calm demeanor and the pleasant expression around the mouth convey his positive outlook. I wanted to emphasize the deep shadow on his body to explain the turning away into the shadow and to add drama. The faint suggestion of detail on the front of the outfit does not distract from the intensity in his face." A.B.
